Funder plus
What is Funder Plus?
Funder plus is any activity which is additional to grant funding. Other terms include ‘grants plus and funding plus’.
For us at BRT, it means going beyond the money. We aim to take on ‘partner grantees’ for multi-year support at a time when additional support is welcomed and where our support can really make an impact.
Most funder plus activity is described as ‘capacity building’ or ‘organisational development’ (training, consultancy, support, networking) aimed at developing the skills of individual organisations to help scale up the work.
The partnership is relational – we are in regular zoom/coffee contact (usually driven by them) so that they can share updates and needs. We try to respond to requests for help when asked, but if they don’t want the help on offer, it is not imposed.
The Trust aims to offer bespoke rather than a standardised or prescriptive approach. We are careful and mindful of the power relationships between the funder and the grantee. For the most part, the ‘Partner Grants’ are unrestricted.
